Your questions answered

You can find us in Canberra's Inner North in the suburb of Lyneham. Our shared community studio space is located on the ground floor of the EMBARK building at G06/253 Northbourne Avenue. We're in the Northern building, facing Northbourne, and we're very accessible with no steps. You need to walk a bit to access us from where you park or ride.

Street parking is accessible behind the EMBARK building in Lyneham as directed and a 4P car park is nearby on De Burgh St, via Wattle St. More 2P parking is available in Lyneham on the street as directed and off Northbourne Ave heading north before EMBARK. Walk around the front after you park. You can also park in the MANTRA hotel and walk up. As we're not at a local shop, we don't have parking directly out front.

Of course, and we welcome you! We offer beginners classes EVERY SUNDAY MORNING (yay!). The class is called "BEGIN" and it's a brilliant place to start. That doesn't mean you can't attend other classes - of course you can! Our experienced yoga, meditation, and sound-healing teachers are accustomed to welcoming new students to all styles of classes. They're there to guide you through it and advise you on how you can practice yoga, honouring your body and capacity in every moment. No matter your skill level.

We offer a balanced range of dynamic and passive classes with options to suit everybody, so no, you don't need any experience - everybody starts somewhere! Rest assured, every class is different, and options will be guided for all levels. If you are new, book BEGIN, UNWIND, YIN or RESTORE. Ayurveda and Yoga are for everybody, at every stage of life. If you're worried or apprehensive about coming to class, you can always reach out for a chat with Tracey to talk through any private concerns, reservations or further questions.

Yoga is an ancient system from India that brings balance to your body and mind. It involves personal values and ethics, physical postures called asanas, breathing exercises called pranayama, meditation practices, self-enquiry, spirituality and philosophy. Yoga in the modern world tends to focus mainly on physical postures. This is a great place to start, but there is so much more to learn about yourself with a consistent yoga practice. We include breath and meditation in most of our classes, and this is where you'll make all the difference.

Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj', meaning to 'Yoke' or 'to Join' or 'to Unite'. What are we uniting? Our true selves with the divine within us. Whatever that may mean to you is fine. It's all meaningful, personal and universal. It may change over time too.

So many things! Balanced health, increased vitality, strength, mobility, less stress, and a calm mind (our true, explicit nature) and nervous system. You'll learn to be more mindful as you support your awareness of yourself and the world around you. With a dedicated practice, you can live well - this is an excellent effect of Yoga. You may become less affected by things as you learn to manage your energy and increase self-awareness.

Those are all really good reasons to come to yoga. Yoga helps people feel better and live well by mobilising energy, promoting stability, reducing stress, calming the mind, creating strength and soothing the body. Yoga and Ayurveda are healing practices. We work with all body types and all types of stress. We offer different class types and can advise you on which classes may help you, given your situation.

You can book a class here and then manage your bookings in the Momence app. When you make your first booking, you'll create an account with our booking system provider, Momence. You'll answer a few get-to-know-you health questions and provide a few confidential details so we can look after you. You can manage your class bookings in the Momence app on your mobile. It's free to download in the App Store or Google Play.

Yes, online bookings are essential. Your booking secures your spot and lets us know you’re coming. We don't take cash bookings because we need you to register to understand your needs and take care of you.

Yes, please bring your own mat to class every time. We're a small, shared community studio space with limited storage, and it's a positive habit to have your own yoga mat. We don't have yoga mats for hire or borrowing. This information is included in class confirmation emails. If you don't have one, we have high-quality natural cork and rubber mats and yoga props for sale! They are of exceptional quality.

Bring your own yoga mat, perhaps a small towel, and any props you use to support your practice, such as a block, cushion, blanket, shawl or bolster. We provide yoga props for support, natural cleaning supplies, and fresh drinking water. Wear modest attire, just whatever you're comfortable in, and bring layers, so you're ready to move and be still.

Yes! Our Starter Pass is a one-time offer for new students, providing five yoga classes for $55. That's the best place to begin and is good value. From there, you have a range of options, including a weekly unlimited membership by direct debit with lots of member program perks, or you can get the same inclusions and a better class rate by purchasing a prepaid membership for either 3, 6, or 12 months. We also have Class Passes in packs of 10, 20 or 50. Find out more and sign up here.

Please arrive in the studio 10-15 minutes before class start times. This is so you can check in, settle in comfortably, possibly use the restroom, etc. It is best practice for your nervous system and respects the class and your teacher. This information is included in class confirmation emails.

Our studio door closes at class start times in respect to the class and the practice. If you're only a few minutes late, you can try the door and enter quietly. If you're more than 5 minutes late to arrive at the studio, it is unfortunately too late to join the class that day, and the door may be closed. Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to class start times to be greeted by your teacher, set up and settle in. It's best for your nervous system, and you'll get the most out of your time.

We provide students with guidance in classes. We may also ask for permission to assist you. Remember, we are all different. So there isn’t just one ‘right’ way to pose or breathe. Part of the practice is to find out what works for your body in that moment. The main thing to know is that yoga is not meant to hurt, whether you're at home or in a class. You'll probably experience different sensations than you’re used to, and you may feel your muscles working. But if you notice any 'warning' pain, such as sharpness or pinching, listen to your body and come out of the pose slowly. You can discuss this with your teacher after class.

Yes, all our teachers know how to support you if you are pregnant and want to practice yoga. In fact, we highly recommend it! Please let us know when you sign up how far along you are, and also notify your teacher when you arrive at the studio. Depending on your stage, your teacher will advise you on what is safe, what is achievable, and what you can do to help you feel more comfortable. There are more limitations for what you can do and how you do it as you move to the later stages of pregnancy, but that does not mean you cannot attend a class. It all starts with awareness. If you would prefer, you can book a yoga consultation with experienced prenatal yoga teacher, Tracey Murray.

Please cancel classes at least 2 hours before class start time. Your class pass or membership will simply be credited - easy! If you cancel a class within 2 hours of the scheduled start time, or if you don't show up and haven't cancelled, you'll incur a late cancellation fee. We can't cancel class bookings over the phone or via social media - you need to do this yourself using your Momence account or the Momence App.

Class passes and prepaid memberships paid upfront can't be paused, but weekly subscriptions can. Please review our cancellation policy within our terms and conditions. We try to be transparent and clear about this, as well as our terms of service.

Our private appointments, including Ayurveda Health Consultation and Follow-up consultations, can be conducted through Zoom - yes! For group yoga classes, we mostly offer in-studio classes, so we don't do this regularly. Sometimes we offer an online group talk via Zoom, or a hybrid model where we can have both people in the studio and online via Zoom, which is fun.

Ayurveda is a natural system of health and healing. It offers overarching principles of matter, energy, nature, and the relationships of all things, as well as specific guidelines for preventing and managing human health. Ayurveda, which translates as “science of life,” is part of the Vedas; its wisdom dates back over 5,000 years. Ayurveda, or Traditional Indian Medicine, is the world's oldest documented health care system. Ayurveda is now practised worldwide. It is the only medical system focusing on the client’s unique physical, mental and spiritual constitution, emphasising prevention. Ayurveda is most powerful when used side-by-side with Yoga. We approach Ayurveda and Yoga by balancing mind and body through lifestyle practices, natural therapies, and herbal remedies.

Modern medicine and consumerism train us not to connect what we do with the results we experience. This leads to not being responsible for ourselves and giving up our power to someone else. This breeds discontent. Ayurveda returns the power to the individual, inviting us to take responsibility for our health and well-being. The practices of Ayurveda allow us to live in the most complete way possible. We look at the whole person, including body, mind and spirit. There is no focus on the disease or disorder. The focus is on the balance and holistic well-being of the entire person, including body, mind and spirit.

Your Ayurvedic Health Consultation will include two stages. First, you'll get a link to an online Client Wellness Questionnaire. This is to be completed by you before your consultation. Your advisor, Tracey Murray, will have access to your Client Wellness Questionnaire prior to your consultation to begin understanding what's going on for you on all levels. Secondly, you'll meet with Tracey either in person (preferable) or online by Zoom to consult with her further, considering all the information you provided in your Client Wellness Questionnaire. Tracey will seek any necessary clarification and discuss with you in detail what could be happening for you. She'll advise you on some gradual steps you can take to help you feel better and bring more balance into your life

Every Ayurveda Health Consultation is private and confidential. The sessions are designed to help you understand yourself more and identify with your tendencies and the root cause of problems you may be experiencing in your life. Follow-up sessions with a shorter timeframe are recommended after your initial consultation to keep you on track and accountable for your actions. It's also nice to reflect and understand perhaps a little deeper on what may have shifted and some next steps you can take to continue making progress.

Yes, you can book a private yoga class with one of our teachers on this website or using the Momence app. These sessions can help you correct your alignment and address your personal needs and goals. We offer you Ayurveda Health Consultations and Ayurveda and Yoga personal programs, which are planned and explored privately with Tracey. You can also book a private group class for a small group, such as a hen's party activity or work team bonding session. Please contact Tracey if you'd like to explore these options.

Namaste is a respectful, heart-centered greeting, translating to "I bow to you," which acknowledges the divine, inner light within another person. It signifies equality, unity, and deep respect, often used in India as a greeting and in yoga to close a practice, fostering connection and reducing ego. You may hear 'Namaste' and other Sanskrit terms in our classes. It's not a religious thing or something intended to intimidate. It's about connection, vibration, energy and honouring the traditions of yoga and Ayurveda.

Yes! There is an accessible, safe, and clean gender-neutral toilet on site and plenty of room to change before and after class.

We can accommodate up to 18 students per yoga class, depending on the style and approach. That's probably less than you're used to, so we recommend booking your mat a few days in advance to secure your spot.
