Welcome home to your natural needs

At Flow and Food Yoga & Ayurveda, we unite Yoga and Meditation practices with an Ayurveda lifestyle approach as a complete way of life to return home to balance and bring wellness.

We're located in the established Canberra Inner North suburb of Lyneham and we inspire everyday healing and encourage self-care through quality nourishment, dynamic movement, conscious rest and energy mobility.

Traditional wisdom guides us as we respectfully integrate the principles of nature with modern ideas to create effective whole health solutions for contemporary people. These solutions are advised in groups or 1-1 sessions in a structured yet nurturing space for movement, mindfulness, creativity and connection. With awareness, energy management and the knowledge of life (Ayur-Veda) you too can gain a sense of freedom with our members who thrive mentally and physically.

We aim to help you cultivate a healthy body, a calm mind, and a firm purpose. Our thoughtful range of authentic classes brings balance for ease, strength for poise, hope in adversity, and peace in life.

Flow and Food Yoga & Ayurveda Founder, Tracey Murray

Holistic begins with our awareness of the whole

We recognise that what we put into our bodies, what we do and what we consume affect us. This is key to becoming more conscious of your actions and the cause-and-effect relationship in life. Prevention and recovery are the cornerstones of our work. We proactively aim to restore balance and prevent disease or injury to create longevity. We provide simple initial actions and gradual steps for members and one-on-one clients to cultivate awareness and encourage consistency in practice, for deep understanding and transformation.

Our community wellbeing studio is thoughtfully designed for accessibility, sustainability and maximum engagement. We share it with Michael Armstrong Art and Rogue Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) martial arts school. Concession passes, workplace wellness programs, free community yoga, and valuable training ensure financial or personal barriers don’t limit participation. Our diverse, inclusive community empowers people to build resilience, recover from adversity, restore balance and forge meaningful bonds. We do this because we recognise our need for better health, creative outlets and human connection.

There is no other yoga studio in Canberra that offers what we do. We are a place of true holistic yoga practice and Ayurveda education. We're on a mission to nurture a strong, healthier, more connected community where healing and growth flourish together.

All movement is only to come to a place of stillness. All contortion is only to come to an Asana - a seat of ease. All Asana is only to come to yoga.

"I joined this yoga studio in January, and from the moment I walked in, I felt completely at home. Tracey is warm and welcoming—her presence sets the tone for a truly nurturing space. I had no idea this is what real yoga felt like until I experienced it here. The variety of classes keeps things fresh and engaging, and each one leaves me feeling lighter, more joyful, and deeply connected to myself. It’s become an essential part of my daily life, and I know it will continue for years to come.

I can genuinely feel the difference in my body and soul since starting. I am grateful for this studio and highly recommend."

"The studio is a beautiful, welcoming space and community in which to grow your practice. Tracey's innate ability to read the energy of the room and deliver exactly what is needed in the practice means that I have never left the room with anything but positive energy. In addition to the yoga practice, the delicious food and tea Tracey serves up with just the right amount of Ayurvedic theory means that I am constantly learning, which just nails it for me. Thank you for bringing the balance back to my world."

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a holistic science based on nature that offers a structure for sustaining yoga's alignment through personalised routines, nourishing foods, and balanced living.

  • It uses the principles of prevention, recovery, and longevity, prioritising the individual's role and responsibility for personal health.
  • It may be the oldest continually practised health system in the world, dating from two to five thousand years ago - originating in the ‘Vedic’ era 1500 BC.
  • Ayurveda can be loosely translated as the ‘science of life. Life, or ‘Aur,’ consists of four parts or aspects: the body, the mind, the soul, and the senses. Ayurveda focuses on the health of these four fundamental aspects.
  • The system addresses the root cause of disease by looking at the whole person, using diet, biorhythms, herbal medicine, psychology, lifestyle, surgery, and bodywork.
  • It is focused on the individual's physical, emotional, mental and spiritual constitution.
  • According to Ayurveda, food plays a central role in well-being. Food is medicine for the mind, and a little intention in your nourishment will change your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

In simple terms, yoga is an ancient system from India that brings balance to your body and mind. It involves personal values and ethics, physical postures called asanas, breathing exercises called pranayama and meditation, self-enquiry and philosophy. Yoga in the modern world tends to focus mainly on physical practice, such as yoga poses. This is a great place to start, but there is so much more to learn about yourself with a consistent yoga practice - this is where you'll make all the difference. Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj', meaning to 'Yoke' or 'to Join' or 'to Unite'. What are we uniting? Our true selves with the divine within us.

So many things! Balanced health, increased vitality, strength, mobility, less stress, and a calm mind (our true, explicit nature) and nervous system. You'll learn to be more mindful as you support your awareness of yourself and the world around you. With a dedicated practice, you can live well - this is an excellent effect of Yoga. You are less affected by things as you learn to manage your energy and move along the healing continuum.

Ayurveda is a natural system of health and healing. It offers overarching principles of matter, energy, nature, and the relationships of all things, as well as specific guidelines for preventing and managing human health. Ayurveda translates to the “science of life” as part of the Vedas; its wisdom dates back over 5,000 years. Ayurveda, or Traditional Indian Medicine, is the world's oldest documented health care system. Ayurveda is now practised worldwide. It is the only medical system focusing on the client’s unique physical, mental and spiritual constitution, emphasising prevention. Ayurveda is most powerful when used side-by-side with Yoga. We approach Ayurveda and Yoga through the balance of the mind and body through lifestyle practices, natural therapies, and herbal remedies.

Modern medicine and consumerism train us not to make connections between what we are doing and the results we experience. This leads to not being responsible for ourselves and giving up our power to someone else. This breeds discontent. Ayurveda brings the power back into the hands of the individual, inviting us to take responsibility for our health and well-being. The practices of Ayurveda allow us to be in life in the most entire way possible. We look at the whole person, including body, mind and spirit. There is no focus on the disease or disorder. The focus is on the balance and holistic well-being of the entire person, including body, mind and spirit.

Your Ayurvedic Health Consultation will include two stages. First, you'll get a link to an online Client Wellness Questionnaire. This is to be completed by you before your consultation. Your advisor, Tracey Murray, will have access to your Client Wellness Questionnaire prior to your consultation to begin understanding what's going on for you on all levels. Secondly, you'll meet with Tracey either in person (preferable) or online by Zoom to consult with her further, considering all the information you provided in your Client Wellness Questionnaire. Tracey will seek any necessary clarification and discuss with you in detail what could be happening for you. She'll advise you on some gradual steps you can take to help you feel better and bring more balance into your life

Every Ayurveda Health Consultation is private and confidential. The sessions are designed to help you understand yourself more and identify with your tendencies and the root cause of problems you may be experiencing in your life. Follow-up sessions with a shorter timeframe are recommended after your initial consultation to keep you on track and accountable for your actions. It's also nice to reflect and understand perhaps a little deeper on what may have shifted and some next steps you can take to continue making progress.

You can book through this website on the Book a Class page. When you make your first booking, you sign up and create an account. When you're set-up, download the Momence app and book your classes ahead of time—plan it into your daily routine! You can manage your info using the app and purchase passes, products, and appointments. We can't take or cancel bookings over the phone or through social media, so please ensure you do this yourself.

No! Hatha and Flow (Hatha based) studio classes will be the most challenging for new students but rest assured, every class is different and options will be guided. If you are new, try Gentle Yoga or Restorative Yoga first. You can always book a private yoga class to get a tailored approach or the basics before you decide on a class pass or a program. Ayurveda and Holistic Yoga is for everybody, at every stage of life.

Yes, online bookings are essential. Your booking secures your spot, and lets us know you’re coming.

Yes. We're a small, shared community studio space and have limited storage space so yes, please bring your mat. If you don't have one, we can offer suggestions and have some high-quality natural cork and rubber mats and yoga props for sale.

We're in Canberra's Inner North in the suburb of Lyneham. Our shared community studio space is located on the ground floor of the EMBARK building at G06/253 Northbourne Avenue. We're in the Northern building, facing Northbourne, and we're very accessible with no steps.

Street parking is accessible behind the EMBARK building in Lyneham as directed and a 4P car park is nearby on De Burgh St, via Wattle St. More 2P parking is available in Lyneham on the street as directed and off Northbourne Ave heading north before EMBARK. Walk around the front after you park. You can also park in the MANTRA hotel and walk up.

Absolutely - the Macarthur Avenue tram stop is just 200m away and we have bike racks available in front of the studio.

Of course, and we welcome you! We offer BEGIN each fortnight on a Sunday morning, which is a brilliant place to start. That doesn't mean you can't attend other classes - of course you can! Our experienced yoga, meditation, and sound healing teachers are well accustomed to new students attending all styles of classes. They're there to guide you through it and advise you on how you can practice yoga, honouring your body and capacity in every moment. No matter your skill level.

Our Starter Pass is a one-time offer for new students, providing five yoga classes for $55. That's the best place to begin. From there, you have a range of options to choose from to continue to embed yoga and meditation into your weekly routine. Membership Program options include weekly membership by direct debit, and membership with payment made upfront. Alternatively, you can book a Class Pass. Yoga classes can be booked as Appointments using the Momence app or through workshops, courses, and retreats, which are offered as community events. All can be booked on our booking system, with links through this website. Find out more on our Pricing page

Yes, all our teachers are aware of how to help you if you are pregnant and want to practice yoga. In fact, we highly recommend it! Please let us know when you sign up how far along you are, and also notify your teacher when you arrive at the studio. Depending on your stage, your teacher will advise you on what is safe, what is achievable and what you can do to help make yourself comfortable. There are more limitations for what you can do and how you do it as you move to the later stages of pregnancy, but that does not mean you cannot attend a class. It all starts with awareness. If you would prefer a Prenatal Private Yoga session you can book with experienced prenatal yoga teacher, Tracey Murray.

We provide feedback and guidance in classes. Remembering we are all very different is essential, so there isn’t just one ‘right’ way to pose. It’s about finding out what works for your body. The main thing to know is that yoga is not meant to hurt – whether practising yoga at home on your own or in a class with a teacher. You will probably experience different sensations than you’re used to, and you may feel your muscles working, but if you think of any “warning” pain, such as sharpness or pinching, listen to your body and come slowly out of the pose.

Students need to bring their own yoga mat, and we invite people to bring their own drink bottle, small towel, and any props they use to support their practice, such as a block, cushion, blanket, or bolster. We have a small supply of props and fresh drinking water available. Wear whatever you're comfortable in and bring layers, ready to move.

Yes! There is an accessible, safe, and clean gender-neutral toilet on site and plenty of room to change before and after class.

Yes, these are private appointments only. They can be private one-on-one classes or semi-private classes with up to four people sharing the cost of the session. Sign up and download the Momence app to view all our private appointment and group class offerings.

We can accommodate up to 18 students per yoga class and 10 in a workshop. That's probably less than what you may be used to, so we recommend booking your mat a few days in advance to secure your spot.

Yes! Products and merch are available for purchase through our SHOP. You can pick them up in the studio and also purchase through "products" in the Momence app when you have an account. We offer clothing, yoga mats, yoga props, and purifying Ayurveda tools, including a Ceramic Neti Pot and a Copper Tongue Scraper.
