Hello, I’m Tracey Murray, Canberra yoga teacher, writer, home cook and mum. I offer yoga classes, wellbeing workshops and holistic lifestyle programs at Mandala Studio in Lyneham. I aim to inform, guide and empower you so you can develop true health. I respect traditional yoga and offer practices that mobilise energy based on the Hatha yoga system. Everyone is different so I offer yoga for everybody that is accessible, intentional, effective and enjoyable.
Yoga and food are two of my passions. It makes sense for me to offer them in a connected way because that’s how I live my life. And, that is the way yoga was always intended (please ask me about this sometime in studio!). I spend my time being a good mother, nurturing my home and garden, shopping for fresh food, practicing yoga and teaching yoga. I care about my health. It is a priority and an expense that I’ve not ever spared. It is our most important asset and one that should be invested in and payed attention to.
I adore whole, natural, fresh, real food and I’m a proud home cook. I enjoy growing or sourcing local seasonal produce and considering nutritional value—and then the great yet simple pleasure of cooking at home, turning delights from my garden into a nutritional taste sensation on my plate. Eating is a sensory experience. Tasting food and feeling the effect of good food is wonderful. I eat three meals a day, when I feel hungry and most of the time, I don't snack (ask me why!). I learn by doing and am always evolving… it takes time! I feel ‘in the flow’ in my kitchen and like to play music when I cook. You may catch me doing yoga and creating sequences in that moment. Ayurveda has connected so many dots for me when it comes to food, diet and nutrition... and yoga! I practice cooking Ayurvedic food and apply Ayurvedic self-care practices for intentional reasons, routinely, and with the seasons. It makes so much sense that we apply things that oppose our symptoms and our environment to improve how we feel - of course we do! I love that once you understand the basic principles, it becomes part of you and it feels so natural.
My time on my yoga mat is important to me because it’s my private solitude. Yoga allows me to be present, process and recover. I connect with me, clear my head, relax and walk away even after 2 or 3 postures, feeling better. I’ve developed an intuitive connection with myself, and I’ve made meaningful connections with others. I’ve practiced yoga for a decade, completed over 500 hours of Yoga teacher and Ayurveda advisor training. My specialised training in Ayurveda and Yoga is ongoing - probably forever more - and I am constantly fascinated and filled with utter joy by how much it makes sense. I'm excited by moments like, how can I use this new grain or spice I've never heard of? And I do. And it's interesting, and it's good or bad. And that's fine because that's the best part - the experience of it.
I practice yoga and eat fresh, whole natural food to feel my best and live my best. I know how they contribute to my wellbeing and energy and how they impact me. I have experienced poor gut health and being overweight. I’ve had brain fog, been awfully menstrual with hormonal health issues and had terrible fatigue. I ebb and flow each day and it’s in these moments I do what I can to feel better.
I want to help you enrich your life by understanding how you can serve yourself and develop healthy practices. How you can find your true health. I’m not a chef, nutritionist, or doctor. I’m a yoga educator, 40 years young woman and mother. If I notice you need more expertise outside of my scope, I’ll tell you. I’m here to teach yoga, offer knowledge and to facilitate enjoyable experiences that you can draw from to develop healthy lifestyle practices and connect more with yourself.
